Why Asphalt Fiberglass Shingles?

Not so long ago most of the asphalt shingling material used was what the industry called “organic”, and even though it was overall more durable, due to its other negative attributes the predominant material used today is Asphalt Fiberglass Composition shingles.

  • Asphalt Fiberglass shingles offer excellent fire protection. These shingles are created with an important layer of glass fiber which is a reinforcing material. This material is specially coated with asphalt, which consists of mineral fillers. This process ensures a waterproof shingle.

The organic asphalt shingles do NOT offer excellent fire protection. They are based on paper saturated with asphalt to make it water proof with coatings of adhesive salt and ceramic granules embedded on top. This makes them more prone to fire.

  • Of the two, Asphalt Fiberglass Shingles are more environmentally friendly.

Organic Asphalt Shingles are less “green” due to their high asphalt (oil based) content.

So thanks to the development in roofing technology we have readily available, attractive, effective and affordable Asphalt Fiberglass Shingle roofing that provides a safer environment not only for our families but also for the environment in which we live.
